Prelim: Evidence of Photoshop
Here is my first use of Photoshop exploring the different
techniques and layouts i could use for my magazine cover. I started off by
inserting my flatplan as one of the layers so I can directly compare and use it
to see how I want to present my cover. I then started off by choosing a photo
from my collection of test shots, I was initially going to use one of my
practice test shots but i felt that the indoor lighting a plain school uniform
was not something I wanted to use in my final piece. After placing my image,
after resizing and cropping out access landscape that did not fit into the
portrait size, I began choosing my font through the masthead. I decided to
subvert conventions and place my masthead not only on the side but as all
lowercase.
I placed my coverlines in the same placement as for my flatplan. I
did this because i thought it would be easier to read and as said in my focus
group interview not as crowded but still supplying information. However i felt
the colour scheme did not do justice to the text as it makes it hard to read
as, especially the gold, is not prominent enough. To solve this next time i
could use a transparent graphic behind the text to both show the background
image and the text.
In terms of the image quality I could have edited the picture to
make it look not only more professional but make the colours more bold and
eye-catching.
The best element of this piece is the crown graphic which i inserted from online and i also created the spiral text myself, labelling it as special edition.
The font also replicates key cover lines and words which i want to be highlighted. I did this by adjusting the colour, the size and positioning of the text.
